It is a fun tradition to go to Safford every year for Pioneer Day. The kids really look forward to getting out of town, and playing with their cousins. We started off the day by visiting the graves of family members buried in Safford and Thatcher. It is important for the kids to know where they come from and have a connection to these relatives that they never knew.
While we were at the graves, the wind picked up and some cloud cover blew in. It really cooled things off, to the mid to high 80's, so going to the park and eating was really nice. Marilee and Clint had ordered a couple of Sub platters, and we had chips, potato salad, macaroni salad, and fruit salad to go with it. Then the sat around talking while the kids, and big kids(Chris, Nate, and Matt) played football and soccer.
After lunch we headed to the church building that Marilee had reserved to hang out and play some more. The kids, and big kids (Matt, Chris, and Nate) played volleyball and soccer, while the wives sat and talked.
Then it was off to the parade. We got a good parking spot, and just sat and waited. The kids did get a little bored waiting, but once it started, they settled in to watch. After the parade, we ate dinner, and went back for fireworks. Then it was off to the motel. We went to church with Marilee and Clint the next morning, and then headed back home. It was a really fun trip, and a perfect way to end the kids summer break. (Jaden started school a few days later.)
